An enigmatic fellow who reminds me of the Russian sailor in the City of Lost Children film (as played by Ron Perlman). But he’s not a set piece character saving the dreams of children, instead he’s the work of noted Innuit figurative sculptor Pavia Thorsen.
From what I can tell (with the copious aid and questionable product of online translation engines) Thorsen was an active carver in West Greenland, mostly during the 1970’s. Most of the info I’ve found is in Danish, which makes a certain sense as Greenland was within the Danish commonwealth at the time (it is now an autonomous country within the Kingdom Of Denmark).
However he got here he’s come a long way to get to Oregon. If Thorsen was most active in the 1970’s this figure has had a few decades to do it but it is an incredible distance to cover if one’s moving at the speed of stone.
5 1/2 inches tall and I’ve no idea what to price it at. Some folks are asking gob-stopping amounts of money for other Thorsen pieces, but the prices vary widely. As a result we’re going to let the market decide and it will be available through an auction on ebay.
